It's been a while....Quad Cities Photographer

Hello I know it's been a while, but I have been busy busy busy building a new website and blog.  No need to keep coming to this blog anymore because I will be doing all my posting on my new blog site at Susie B Photography Blog

I Promise....Natural Light Photographer

I promised myself that in 2010 I would take more pictures of my own kids just doing normal kid stuff.  I fell into such an awful pitfall last year of not taking pictures of my own kids at important events and just doing the things that captured what they enjoy.  I was just taking too many pictures of other people's children to have any desire to pick up my camera anymore.  I am totally kicking myself now of course and I have promised myself that I will structure my life now so that I can enjoy capturing my own peanuts in motion....that is how I fell in love with photography in the first place and so important to do.

So on Friday this week Josie and I were hanging out at our house like we do most Fridays as it happens to be the one day of the week we do not have anything going on.  Josie has this love of playing with balloons.  Give her a couple balloons and she can seriously entertain herself for an hour.  She makes sweet little noises as she bats that balloon up in the air with her game of not wanting the balloon to drop to the floor.  So when she began her balloon game on Friday I thought this would be my chance to start honoring that promise....Here is a little collage of Josie just being Josie....oh how I adore that girl....

What a doll....Natural Light Children's Photographer in Iowa

I thought it would be cool to post this set of pictures next because of the contrast between the lighting situation in my last post.  Although it is awesome to shoot with perfect light a lot of times that is just not the case.  This session was taken again in a client's home and just shows that you do not need to have two foot story windows to have nice in home pics. 

This is the second time I have shot this little peanut, the first up at the Plains Art Museum and now this time in her home.  She was very comfortable at home and was able to let more of her little firey personality come out. 

My favorite part of her session was the variety of expressions she gave....so I decided to do a little collage to highlight all those faces...

I Gots to Say Thanks! Iowa Modern Children's Photographer

I have to share these recent pics out of order so I can give a proper thanks to the gal who made them possible.  Over Christmas I took pics of these brothers..who have been up here about a million times (the baby is the baby that I did the birth photos).  Last year we did the older two boys at the Plains Art in January but we wanted to change things up a bit this year.  So my always thinking friend Allison decided to ask a coworker (she also happens to be the wife of a childhood pal of mine and she sang at my wedding..so lots of ties)  if we could use her house for shooting.  We affectionately call her house the mansion.  Her talented and very hard working husband built this house almost all by himself...crazy I know, but true.  This house is two stories and just happens to have two stories of windows in a very large modern great room .  It is totally gorgeous and the closest I have come to knowing what it would feel like to shoot in a natural light studio.  The pictures are some of my favs, but do not give me any credit for it...when you have kids this cute with awesome light it is a pretty simple formula.  So thank you so much Danielle for letting us intrude on your day and opening up your gorgeous natural light studio home to us.  I know both Allison and I are both really grateful!

Back to Session Posting....Iowa Children's Photographer

I have to abandon the picture a day theme for a bit to do some session posts.  I still have a several sessions to post from way before the holidays.  And I am excited to say that for the first time in a long time I am all caught up with editing which is very exciting because it frees me up to do something I have been wanting to do for a long time and just have not been able to prioritize.   I am going to be building a new website and I will also be getting a new blog.  I can not wait to get it finished and show it off:)

Back to the sessions...this session is from all the way back this fall...it is a Quad Cities session.  It was a totally fun session although I think at first these two boys did not know exactly what to think of this type of photosession:)  We had picked out a gorgeous neighborhood with a ton of mature trees that were in full fall color the week before our session and then as the week progressed the leaves all fell.  The whole week it literally rained leaves and our pretty location was not quite what we had in mind.  We managed to find some pretty intense fall colors anyway.....

These next two pictures are a couple of my favs from the session.  I think because it reminds me of a picture from when I was little that I treasure.  The look on "N"'s face looking at his dad is not something that should be forgotten..

Bettendorf...an icy city..

People back home are always asking me what the weather in Iowa is like...this is what it is like right now...icy!  These are a few pics I took outside my house today during a break in the waves of ice that fell from the sky and covered the Quad Cities...

 

Anyone else think I should throw those pumpkins away before spring rolls around?

And I did not forget my portrait picture to represent the emotion of joy... Also, just wanted to mention that if anyone ever thinks they have to buy fancy new outfits for photos here is proof you do not.  Her mommy threw together her outfit from items in her closet...nothing new...just cool:)

 

Kinda fitting that I am doing blog posts on joy today as today was a very joyous day for the ladies and I.  I loved our "snow" day.  I actually for once did not feel like a taxi driver lugging my girls to all their schools and stuff.  The roads were too slippery for errands so we hung in the house and found lots of time for snuggling and relaxing.  By the end of the night the girls were pretty attached to me because of all the attention I had been able to give them.  Josie broke out in song about how she loves me and Ella literally would not let go of me at the end of the night.  If more ice storms mean more relaxing days with my babes I say bring on the ice mother nature.

A Picture a day continues....Quad Cities Photographer

Today I am sitting at home with my girls because school is cancelled due to an ice storm.  I thought I would continue with the picture a day theme and go with celebrating the emotion of joy!  There is a big difference between a picture where someone has a nice smile on their face and one where their joy at that moment can be felt.  To start off I am going to start with one of my favorite all time pictures of my two ladies together.

Email Issues....UGGGHHHH!!!

I realized today that I had not received and email that someone sent me and I have sent several test emails from my personal account to my business account and they are not going through.  This is not an issue I have had before, but I have had a ton of email issues...Can you say going to be getting new email:)

If you have emailed me in the past 48 hours and I have not responded please email me back.  I am having them forwarded to another address and that appears to be working...
